The third Harry Potter movie - The Prisoner of Azkaban - is seen as a rite of passage for Harry and his friends. While the previous two show The Boy Who Lived trying to adjust to his fame, and figure out his place in the Wizarding World, The Prisoner of Azkaban signifies the young wizards' coming of age. The Prisoner of Azkaban brings to the fore more secrets and unfinished business of Harry's past. It follows Sirius Black's escape from Azkaban, traces the truth of his wrongful imprisonment, and finally, the Trio discovers that Peter Pettigrew betrayed the Potters. As such, The Prisoner of Azkaban features some of the most memorable quotes in the entirety of the Harry Potter movie series. 10 Uncle Vernon Lies To Marge Dursley Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban opens in the Dursley household, and Harry is surrounded by not three but four of his vicious extended family. Uncle Vernon's sister, Marge, has come to visit and her crass remarks about the dead Potters reflect her bad social conduct. She refuses to behave, calls James Potter a drunk, and suggests Harry needs to be disciplined more. When Marge asks where Harry goes, Uncle Vernon hides from her the fact that his nephew enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry "St. Brutus'. It's A Fine Institution For Hopeless Cases." Vernon's words reflect the Dursley family's ill-treatment of Harry. They always saw him as a burden and wanted to get rid of him, but simply couldn't under the circumstances that they were in. Marge is just as bad-mannered as her brother and sister-in-law and her demeaning remarks about the Potters get Harry upset. 9 Harry Potter Leaves The Dursleys Marge's behavior angered Harry, and he unintentionally used an inflation charm on her. This resulted in a thoroughly hilarious scene, and while Marge blew up and flew away, a helpless Vernon yelled at Harry to bring her back. Harry maintained that Marge got what she deserved and stormed out of Four, Privet Drive with his suitcase "I don't care. Anywhere is better than here." Harry's words prove that the Dursleys never really warmed up to him. They never considered him a family member, and most certainly didn't treat him like one either. 8 Stan Shunpike Tells Harry About Sirius Black Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban also features the triple-decker purple ride known as the Knight Bus that serves the stranded members of the Wizarding Community. The bus conductor, Stan Shunpike introduces the service to a stranded Harry, saying "My name is Stan Shunpike, and I will be your conductor for this evening." The Knight Bus operates at a fast speed, and its driver, Ern uses various kinds of levers and knobs on the bumpy ride. While Ern avoids obstacles on the road, Shunpike talks about a murderous lunatic, Sirius Black who has escaped Azkaban without any outside help. Shunpike is, in fact, the first person who tells Harry that Sirius is a murderer and a follower of Lord Voldemort. 7 Harry Potter Asks Arthur Weasley An Important Question At the Leaky Cauldron, Ron's father, Arthur Weasley, warns Harry about Sirius and tells him the deranged criminal lost everything when the Dark Lord Voldemort was defeated. Arthur says Sirius has escaped from Azkaban to find Harry and warns the wizard against seeking him out. Perplexed, Harry asks the obvious question "Mr. Weasley, why would I go looking for someone who wants to kill me?" This propels the plot of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. There's still time before Harry finds out that Sirius Black was imprisoned after being betrayed by a close friend, Peter Pettigrew. He was wrongfully accused of murdering Pettigrew, killing twelve Muggle bystanders, and was thrown into Azkaban without a trial. 6 Albus Dumbledore Warns Students About Dementors Dumbledore has a great many quotes to his credit. He injects a word of caution at the Start-of-Term Feast, held in the Great Hall. As Hogwarts' Headmaster, Dumbledore makes important announcements concerning the school and its students. Since Sirius is on the loose, the Ministry of Magic takes a protective measure to station Dementors of Azkaban at Hogwarts "A word of caution Dementors are vicious creatures. They will not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way." Dumbledore sternly warns students from getting in the way of Dementors as they are frightening, unforgiving creatures who possess the ability to suck a person's soul out through their mouths. 5 Albus Dumbledore's Pearls Of Wisdom Though Dumbledore's forewarning alarms students, he is quick to follow it with this priceless nugget of wisdom "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." Dumbledore knows how to handle his audience. He alleviates his students' fears by asking them to remain optimistic and to look on the bright side. With that, the students proceed to feast on various kinds of delicacies served to them. 4 Remus Lupin Honors Lily Potter's Memory Harry bonds with his late parents' friend, and the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Remus Lupin. During his time at Hogwarts, he and three other Gryffindors, namely James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew were part of a mischief-making group known as the Marauders. Remus and Harry find some alone time after the latter is denied permission to visit Hogsmeade in the wake of the Sirius Black chaos. Remus honors his dear friend Lily's memory and says he recognized Harry at once by his eyes "The very first time I saw you Harry, I recognized you immediately. Not by your scar, by your eyes. They are your mother; Lily's." Throughout Harry Potter, Harry is often told that he has his mother, Lily's eyes. Remus' line has a lot of impact on Harry, who feels alone at that point. The young wizard smiles when his teacher calls Lily "an uncommonly kind woman." 3 Remus Lupin Greets an Old Friend The Trio comes face-to-face with Sirius Black after he lures them into the Shrieking Shack because he has unfinished business with Peter Pettigrew. Harry, who still believes Sirius betrayed his parents, grows impatient to take him out. As Harry points his wand at Sirius, Remus bursts through the door, disarms him, and proceeds to greet his old friend "Well, well, Sirius. Looking rather ragged, aren't we? Finally, the flesh reflects the madness within." At this point, the Trio is moments away from finding out that Sirius was framed. The escapee looks like he's been through a lot, and Remus isn't in good shape either. Hermione, meanwhile, declares she's figured out that their Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher has been missing classes because he is a werewolf. 2 Sirius Black Gets His Hands on Peter Pettigrew Harry learns that it was Peter Pettigrew, not Sirius, who betrayed his parents' whereabouts to Lord Voldemort. Ron, meanwhile, discovers his pet rat, Scabbers is actually Peter in his Animagus form. Remus and Sirius force Peter Pettigrew nicknamed Wormtail to transform back into a human and confront him about the crimes he's committed, and the people he's wronged. While the sneaky Wormtail tries to warm up to Harry, Sirius immediately stops him "How dare you speak to Harry! How dare you talk about James in front of him!" Remus holds Peter responsible for selling James and Lily to Voldemort. This quote highlights the fact that Sirius was protective of Harry and, had he not been framed by Peter, his godchild wouldn't have felt so alone, after all. 1 Severus Snape Vs. Sirius Black Snape arrives at the Shrieking Shack and interrupts the heated argument between the Trio and Remus and Sirius. The infamous rivalry of the yesteryears comes to the surface. The four Gryffindors, aka the Marauders, Sirius, Remus, James, and Peter were rivals with the Slytherin, Snape, from day one. They also took great pleasure in bullying him during their time at Hogwarts, and Lily Potter tried her best to protect Snape. In the third Harry Potter movie, Sirius takes a jibe at Snape's love for Potions "Why don't you run along and play with your chemistry set?" Snape gets angry and doesn't hold back either. He points his wand at his old foe and reminds him of the Dementors and Azkaban. The argument gets too heated, and Harry knocks Snape out just to silence him and get to the bottom of things.
